Rug Dusting

Rug Dusting

Did you know an 8 X 10 wool area rug can hold approximately 75lbs of “dust” before appearing dirty? This “dust” is unhealthy for the life of your treasured Oriental, wool or silk area rug and creates the perfect conditions for allergens, dust mites, bed bugs and bacteria. In addition, this “dust” is abrasive to the fibers of your area rug and can lead to traffic lanes, degradation of face fibers and fringe and create an overall “ugliness” in appearance.

What is rug dust?

The “dust” removed by rug dusting can include a mixture of many things most commonly:

  • Allergens
  • Dirt/Soil/Sand
  • Dead Skin Cells
  • Worn Rug Fibers
  • Food Particles
  • Pet Dander
  • Moth and Carpet Beetle Larvae

Allergens, such as pollen, embed themselves deep into your rug are continually released with each and every step you and your family make. Another major make-up of the dust in your rug is disgusting dead skin cells, which are constantly sloughing off everyone’s body. It’s the same principal as when your mattress doubles in weight from the same dead cells, the only difference is we can remove them from your rugs.

If you have pets your rugs are a giant powerful magnet for pet dander, fleas and mites which we all know can irritate allergies of your friends and family.

What’s the rug dusting process?

Years ago our grandmothers would hang their area rugs over a clothesline or fence and “beat the cooties, dust and dirt” out of them with a broom. This process was typically performed after the rugs had been vacuumed and you’d be amazed as to the contaminates, dirt and sand our grandmother was able to get out of a freshly vacuumed rug.

Fast forward to today and technology allows us to super charge the “dusting” process.

At Oriental Rug Salon our dusting process begins with a thoroughly exhaustive vacuuming of both sides of the area rug with a powerful commercial vacuum cleaner with beater bars and brushes attached. Once both sides of the rug have been vacuumed in two directions we place the rug face down on a grid and use a specialized Badger dusting machine that provides 40,000 harmonic vibrations per minute. This vibrating action dislodges all deep-set soil, sand, dander and other contaminates that can rob your rug of its beauty and life expectancy.

We offer RugBadger rug dusting as a stand-alone service for clients that may not require a professional submersion cleaning just yet but they do want the dust and soils removed between professional cleanings. This Badgering rug dusting process will not rid your rugs of spots, stains or odors but if you have unexpected guests arriving and don’t have time to get your rugs fully cleaned, this is a great alternative. This way you know your rugs are free of loose dirt, dust mites and pet dander.

Now you know how our dirty little secret can rid your area rug of its dirty little secret.

Professional rug dusting services offered throughout the cities of Naples, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers and Punta Gorda.
